Honorable Mention Knots, About, Knocked About Gary Blankenship This poem is not about dogs, kittens, china birds in himalayas, crows in the garbage, robins, heads, tilted on the new-mowed lawn, wild creatures of any kind, even those on the silver screen a Saturday night at the drive-in car load for 5 bucks. This poem is not life lessons, life truths, lies told to impress the liar, lies dressed up to mimic the truth, lying in a hammock chores undone, drawing to a flush and coming up with a full house. This poem is not about skidding, black ice, broken guardrails, cold water rapids, the two-point that watched as my new thirty-ought-six, boots and empties sank, flies, lilies, insurance payments or bribes. This poem does not outline the books I’ve read, will read, wish to read, have stopped reading in the middle, startled at how little interest I have in someone else’s words after the clerk collected for The Collected Works. This poem is not about red. This poem is not memoir, journal, diary, biography, therapy, an account of no account, remembering less remembered than dreamed. This poem is not.
